Art Drops

Hide Your Art on World Art Drop Day - 1st Tuesday in September - Sept 5th, 2023

How To Participate:
Simply Download This PDF to Include With The Art You Hide

All artists, (that means students and professionals, painters and cartoonists, sculptors and illustrators, animators and fine artists, photographers and printmakers; EVERYONE who creates) are welcome to participate in Art Drops. Wherever you find yourself that day, drop (hide) a piece of your art and tell someone where to find it on social media.
Spread the word to your artistic friends. It is a great way to get your name or an organization's name out there - while sending someone a smile.

Musicians can drop CDs, textile artists can drop knit scarves, soap-makers can drop a bar, paper-makers can drop a journal. If you’ve got a talent of some sort, even if you just consider yourself an amateur doodler, you can participate.

Arts & Venues organizer - Brooke Dilling

Here is an example paper tag to include with your art.

How it works

Here's how it works: Artists download a tag and create a small, inexpensive piece or two to share on World Art Drop Day and include the tag (see download link above).
  • CREATE a small piece of art and hide it somewhere.
  • Take a photo of either the art or the hiding spot or a combination of both.
  • Post the image and a hint on any social media of your choice. Be sure to include the hashtag: #myartdropclue
Then move on, hoping someone finds it. (Please be careful not to damage or disturb any nature or private property!)

That's it!

Art Drop FAQ

1. What is an art drop?
An art drop is where you hide an inexpensive item you created for somebody to find. You provide clues to where you hid the item using social media.

Join our group to share the clues, https://www.facebook.com/groups/myartdrop/

2. Can anyone hide a piece of art?

Yes, but include the tag you download from above.

3. When do we hide it?

Hide the item the night before or anytime the day of the event.

4. What about rain?

Wrap the item and/or the attached note in weather-proof package - such as a ziplock bag.

5. How difficult of a spot should I pick?

Most people pick a spot that the item will be found within a few hours (Example: by an ATM machine, under a bench, etc.).
If the item is well hidden, there is a chance it will stay there for months.

6. Is there a deadline to participate?

No - You may even do an artdrop the day of the event. www.myartdrop.com

7. How do I provide clues to where the art is hidden?

Usually people take 1-3 pictures - each with a different angle or at a different distance - so to provide a visual clue to those
watching on social media.

8. Where do I post the item on social media.

Post the picture on our facebook group and then share it from there.
Tag us in the post by typing @myartdrop in the message.

9. What do people do when they find my art?

Include this note to attach to you art. This note will give the person instructions
to repost what they found and to tag you as a thank-you and to let you know it was found. Sorry, Not everyone does this.

10. I do not live in your city, can I do an artdrop in my city?

Yes, but our members of our facebook group and followers of our Instagram feed
will not be looking for it. So you should hide your art in a place where you know somebody will stumble upon it.

If you include #myartdropclue and tag us using @myartdrop, we will still promote your art on social media.

11. Will there be other art drops?
Feel free to art drop anytime but we only promote on world art drop day.

If you have more questions email: stevewitta@gmail.com

If you put the item in a place where it may not be found for days, please weather-proof the paper tag - i.e. zip lock bag. This is not required if you put the item in a high traffic area (Like by an atm machine - library entrance, etc..).
